17 Dec NBTC Plans Transition to Stand Alone Operations
As you may be aware, LifeSouth was one of the founding members of National Blood Testing Collaborative (NBTC) and, for the past 3 years, has served as the laboratory operator for all NBTC members on the eastern half of the U.S. They supported our unexpected growth to the current testing volume of over 1.1M blood donated units annually by our 17 owners and two clients.
Though NBTC was designed to coordinate and perform testing for its members, when the collaborative was first created, there was an immediate need for a blood center that could temporarily take on the role of laboratory operator to fulfill all members’ testing needs while NBTC worked through licensing and logistics.
While the entire collaborative is grateful that LifeSouth stepped up to take on those operations, we are excited to announce that NBTC is now ready to begin assuming its intended role as laboratory operator for the region. The transition is already underway, and we expect it to be fully completed by Jan 8, 2023.
Though operations of the laboratory will change hands, we would like to stress that the services currently being offered as well as the client base receiving testing will not change. As such, we do not anticipate any significant changes to LifeSouth’s existing vendor relationships and will be working with each vendor individually in the coming months to create the plan to transition services to NBTC when needed.
Thank you for helping us achieve our mission of providing a safe, reliable blood supply to patients in need.
